We have a great mix of families and singles and seniors and newlyweds and retireds. We are the kind of neighbors who are courteous to each other, and look in on each other, who watch over things while on vacation -- who care!

We remember fondly some of our neighbors who have moved on.


Mary Ann Gravelle Heinzer

Mary Ann Gravelle Heinzer, 66, died early Friday, July 18, 2008, at her home in West Lafayette. She was a cancer survivor and had been in hospice care for several weeks.

Born Dec. 10, 1941, in Chicago, she was the daughter of the late Emory J. and Violette A. Kirch Gravelle. She attended St. Lawrence Catholic Grade School and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1960. She studied fashion illustration through Brigham Young University and took courses at Purdue University.

She married William James Heinzer, a professor in Purdue's mathematics department, on Aug. 20, 1977.

Mrs. Heinzer enjoyed tole painting, gardening, reading, aerobic dancing, photography and traveling -- especially driving to California, visiting friends on the way and researching family genealogy at the Family History Center in Salt Lake City.

She had been a member of Catholic parishes in Lafayette and West Lafayette her entire life.

She is survived by her husband; a brother, John Gravelle (wife: Ana Elena) of Cincinnati; and a sister, Sandra Rosalie Pardue (husband: Vernon) of Crawfordsville.

Visitation from 9 a.m. until the funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Father Tim Alkire officiating. Interment Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, West Lafayette. Also surviving are 4 nieces, a nephew and a grandniece. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Elizabeth Hospice.
