RE: Skip a Meal, Feed a Child Day – April 19
According to the World Food Programme of the United Nations, one child dies every five seconds because he or she is hungry. In an effort to raise awareness of local and world hunger, the Student Humanitarian Organization of West Lafayette Junior/Senior High School and the War On Hunger – Committee of 19 student campaign of Purdue University have partnered to bring “Skip A Meal, Save A Child” to our community.
On April 19, we are asking you and your friends to fast for lunch and/or donate the amount of money that they would typically spend on a lunch to hunger organizations. Half of this money will benefit the hungry in our community through the Hunger Hike and the other half will help the hungry and malnourished children in underdeveloped countries through the United Nations World Food Programme, where as little as 19 cents can feed one child for an entire day.
We are very proud of these students -- they are passionate, organized and have developed a program for impact. Join us in supporting them as we make this first Skip a Meal, Feed a Child Day a success. Please make your colleagues and friends aware of these activities and participate to the greatest extent you can:
